Seattle Hosts FORTH Roadmap Conference, Highlights the Need to Collaborate on Transportation Electrification
We are proud to have the Forth Roadmap Conference in Seattle this week! The conference is one of the country’s largest electric transportation events and a great opportunity to highlight our work and innovation in this space. On Monday, September 14, Interim General Manager and CEO Rob Santoff welcomed attendees with a message about why this work matters and why it’s one of our top priorities.
“Over the past several years, we have significantly expanded programs that help customers switch from fossil fuels to electric power…This includes supporting the deployment of more than 900 EV chargers across homes and businesses, and partnering with King County Metro to help electrify public transportation in our region…And we’re building this infrastructure with the people who live here, including women-owned and minority-owned businesses, so the communities we serve benefit from these investments right from the start.”
Rob told the audience at Seattle’s Convention Center that transportation accounts for 56% of core emissions in Seattle. By 2045, he said, we project it will make up 20% of our electric load. Those numbers reflect why transportation electrification is a key focus of our work and why the choices we make today will shape a cleaner, healthier region for years to come.
He handed the mic off to regional government and business leaders for a discussion about our state’s innovation and leadership in the electric transportation industry. They highlighted the importance not only of monetary investment, but policy and collaboration in efforts to reduce carbon emissions in a way that leads to better quality of life for all Washingtonians.
After the panel, Seattle City Light staff met with conference participants in the exhibition hall to answer questions and discuss our ongoing transportation electrification efforts.
